London Suite
by Neil Simon

16th – 19th September 2009

This comedy drama follows the visits of four different guests during their stay in a deluxe suite in a small but comfortable hotel in London. Settling Accounts features a struggling author resolving a dispute with his financial advisor in an appropriately creative way. Going Home tells of a widowed mother accompanied by her daughter who tries to persuade her to agree to a blind date. Sidney and Diana are the third visitors - a fading actress meets her estranged husband, only to receive news she isn’t expecting. Finally The Man on the Floor, as the title suggests, has more physical comedy as an American couple lose their Wimbledon tickets and a desperate hunt ensues.

Mr Wonderful by James Robson

Norma Green, 45, is a factory-worker who spends her time looking after her bedridden mother Phoebe and dreams of her Mr Wonderful – searching unsuccessfully through a dating agency. Phoebe spends her day eating liquorice allsorts and lapsing into her Queen Mother impression at inopportune moments as Norma meets a series of unlikely suitors. Along comes Geoff Lazenby, a former teacher with a classic motor car and every inch the gentleman. Could he be the one? This heart-warming play is full of lovely moments and all too near the truth comments on the challenges of life, love and relationships.

This challenging thriller twists and turns towards its gripping conclusion: who will be the ultimate predator and who is the prey?

Life Begins At Seventy by David Muncaster

21st – 24th April 2010

This is a light-hearted and touching story about four older – but certainly not over the hill – people which proves that you are never too old to fall in love. Betty and Dorothy have known each other all their lives and their constant bickering belies a deep friendship and shared tragedy. Straight-laced Tom has recently moved into the area and is friends with the ageing rogue Bill, whose half-forgotten reputation for womanising is soon to be a key factor in the future happiness of all four characters. This premiere production is a lovely illustration of how to keep a youthful outlook on life regardless of age – to which we all aspire!

Good Grief by Keith Waterhouse

16th – 19th June 2010

This is a beautifully sensitive and touching play with many humorous moments. It centres on the widow of the editor of a national tabloid. In his final days Sam urged his wife June to keep a diary after his death to help her through her bereavement. She decides to keep a verbal diary in the form of private conversations with the late Sam that only the audience can hear. Her stepdaughter Pauline is determined to “look after” her and Sam’s former colleague Eric turns up with some interesting news from the office. June befriends Duggie, a stranger with whom she can share her feelings of loneliness and finds some comfort. But Duggie, like Eric and Pauline has his own agenda and as June uncovers some unsavoury details from the past she gains courage and strength to go forward. A wonderfully moving and uplifting play.
